Cascapedia River

Home of the 40-pounders, the Cascapedia River or "Grand" as it also known is recognized as one of the finest Atlantic salmon rivers in the world. This majestic Cascapedia cascades down through the Chic-Choc mountain range in a southerly direction, skipping behind patches of alder and spruce forests on its parallel journey with the route 299, before emptying into the Bay of Chaleurs some 70-miles down river.

The one striking difference with the other local rivers is the substrate and color of the "Grand". The pools are well defined and the river runs with a slight tea color and has a good volume of water. When it rains the water comes up fast and the fishing usually gets real good almost everywhere on the river. June is the big fish month. The fishing is somewhat of a gamble before the 8th of June but it is worth taking the risk, because if the water is right, the fish will be there. The upper stretches of the river  D & E,  can start to fish well from the beginning of June, depending on the year, (this is the run of 20 to 45+ pound fish that head up during the first run), right through the rest of the season, depending on water levels.

The Cascapedia River consistently produces the largest Atlantic salmon in Quebec year after year making it one of the most desirable places in the world to fish for Atlantic salmon! Along with our August & September angling packages, we also offer guide services throughout the regular season on the upper, public portions of the river from June 1 to September 30th..

September Catch & Release season

Gaspé Salmon Destinations would like to invite you to share in a very special angling experience on the Cascapedia River this fall. Come and witness the pallet of vibrant fall colors that fill the mountains of the majestic Cascapedia Valley. Cast your fly to some of the largest Atlantic salmon in the world during one of their most active periods of the year! Witness, what some anglers consider to be, "the most beautiful, and most productive time of year to fish the Gaspé Peninsula".

Over the last 5-years our guests have enjoyed , catching and releasing a good number of large wild fish during the month of September, the majority of these released salmon were in the 20-30 lb. plus range. For the past five years our anglers have taken several 40-pound salmon each year and have enjoyed a 33-50% success rate for landed fish and a 67% hook-up rate, which is darn good considering that the average size salmon is over 24lbs!

For the 2006 angling season we will be offering fishing on quality water within the limits of sectors D & E during the month of September and of course throughout the earlier season. We will also be offering guided angling on the Petite Cascapedia and Bonaventure Rivers that can be combined with a Cascapedia River trip. Call us for details on these September packages as well as information on our other all-inclusive angling packages on our other local rivers.

The upper river is divided into two branches, the Salmon and Lake Branch, E and D respectively. This is where we will be offering our services for the 2006 season. These branches are considerably smaller than the main river but still hold very big fish throughout the summer and can be real hot in September! All of our September guests will stay at SALMON LODGE on the Cascapedia River, where they will enjoy excellent meals and well appointed rooms. Give us a call for more information about our special September packages on the Cascapedia.
